Two men face drug charges after property searches

Drug charges can range in severity and may have varying levels of consequences if a conviction is made, but they can also leave those charged with a societal stigma that is hard to avoid, even if the person is found to be innocent.

Two California men are now facing the possibility of harsh consequences after police arrested them for alleged drug crimes. The drug charges were filed in early October as the result of the execution of two separate search warrants on two separate properties. Two men, ages 48 and 37, were arrested. It is not clear whether the two men knew each other.

Each man was charged with suspicion of illegally cultivating marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, and transporting illegal drugs. Authorities claim to have seized 70 pounds of packaged marijuana and more than 100 cannabis plants, as well as some money and a shotgun.

No information was disclosed concerning the details of any investigation, including why the two separate houses were targeted. It is also not clear what property was seized at which location. The warrants were said to be executed at about 2 p.m., on a Wednesday in October by personnel from a Riverside County anti-gang task force, as well as agents of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. The two men are being held at separate California detention centers, each on $50,000 bail.

Penalties for conviction may include substantial prison time and financial penalties, including possible property forfeiture. In forming a solid defense, the men will have to take into consideration many factors, such as the legal ramifications of the charges and the legality of the searches made on their properties.
