Three adults, three teens face drug, weapons charges

Six California residents were arrested on weapons and drug charges in October. Police say the group of people arrested was comprised of three adults and three teenagers. If the people arrested are convicted on the weapons and drug charges, they could face serious consequences.

The teenagers, a 16-year-old and two 15-year-olds, were taken into custody on charges included possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of a concealed and loaded weapon and altering the serial number on a firearm. The drug charges included possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana for sale. They were also charged with being a member of a criminal street gang, violation of probation and resisting arrest.

The incident is claimed to have started when police approached a group of people who were near a pool at an apartment complex in Porterville, a city about 300 miles south of Roseville, California. The group split into two and supposedly ran into one of two adjoining apartments. Police say they arrested nine people in one apartment and nine in the other. In total, 20 people were questioned but only six were charged.

During their time in the apartments, police claim they found a small amount of cocaine on one of the 15-year-old boys. The 16-year-old boy is claimed to have had a concealed knife.

In the second apartment, police allege a 15-year-old boy tossed a loaded handgun out a bedroom window. Police say they later found the gun and claim its serial number had been removed.

After getting search warrants for the apartments, police claim they found ammunition, a television with a removed serial number and about three ounces of processed marijuana. Police also claim they found evidence of gang affiliation, though exactly what evidence was not disclosed. A baby and a 17-year-old female were remanded to welfare services, but it is unclear as to why.

While this incident may appear to be loaded with charges, all persons involved are innocent until proven guilty. It is important to take into account every action taken by police in the incident in order to protect the rights of the adults and children who face charges.
