California man up against rape charges after concert incident

A California man is facing allegations of rape following an incident at the opening night of the Stagecoach Country Music Festival last spring. If convicted, he faces many years in prison and he may also become a registered sex offender. He has maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to the allegations, according to a recent news report.

According to the claims of the 23-year-old plaintiff, she had asked the 46-year-old man, a parking attendant, to help her find a friend's car after she became separated from her friends at the music festival on April 30. After the man helped her, she alleges that he exposed himself. Against her protestations, she claims he proceeded to grope and rape her.

The man, however, shared a very different recollection of events. He claims that he lent his cellphone to the woman, but otherwise had no physical contact with her.

The woman has admitted that she had seven or eight drinks that night and that she was feeling some effects of alcohol. This may call some of her allegations into question.

The man is currently being held in jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. Prosecutors have charged him with rape, forced oral copulation, sexual penetration with a foreign object and sexual battery. Due to the serious nature and high stakes of the charges, the presentation of a robust and aggressive defense is important to help to ensure a fair trial. As he faces the charges against him, he may wish to consult with an experienced California criminal defense attorney.
