Northern California police task force has a busy day

Northern California authorities have been busy lately, with a recent report noting a particularly interesting string of arrests made by a drug enforcement task force on October 19th. One arrest was made for possession of a switchblade knife - an illegal weapon in California. Another, coming after authorities stopped to help the occupants of a disabled vehicle, was made after the police smelled marijuana in the vehicle. That stop in particular could come with some very serious criminal charges.

After smelling what they believed to be marijuana, the police searched the vehicle and allegedly recovered over six pounds of marijuana. However, to make matters worse, the police also indicated that an assault rifle was recovered. Two men were arrested after the incident, which led to charges that they were attempting to sell and transport drugs. Charges for the possession of an illegal weapon were also leveled at one of the men.

Lastly, the drug enforcement task force stopped to investigate another vehicle. They contacted the owner of the vehicle and also searched it, allegedly turning up marijuana and methamphetamine. The owner of the vehicle was arrested for drug possession.

Drug charges are serious crimes in California . The more serious the drug, such as cocaine or meth, or the larger the quantity possessed, the more likely it is that an arrestee will be facing felony charges. When it comes to a drug arrest, it is very important for an arrestee to contact an attorney immediately and to begin to gather information about potential criminal defense strategies.
