Arrests made in nearby El Dorado County after warrants served

The role of illegal drugs in American society continues to play a prominent part in the national discussion, including in California. Although recent years have seen some changes in state laws regarding the use and possession of marijuana, most notably the changes implemented after last year's elections in Colorado and Washington, marijuana possession is still illegal in most places in America. And when drug possession leads individuals to sell drugs, the problems can get even more complicated.

A group of individuals in El Dorado County have found themselves in hot water recently, after an intense investigation came to an end on April 4. According to the reports, five search warrants were executed that day, leading to the arrest of six suspects and the seizure of $80,000 and about 60 pounds of marijuana.

It appears that the police investigation came about due to suspicions surrounding the operation of two businesses. Most of the charges involved in the arrests centered on marijuana possession and intent to distribute, although some of the arrestees were also charged with firearms crimes. Several firearms were also seized in the operation.

Drug charges combined with weapons charges can be difficult to defend against. Many police officers would be able to tell our readers, however, that where there are drugs there are usually firearms. Although the individuals arrested in this recent case are facing some very serious charges, a thorough evaluation of all available options could lead to the discovery of improper seizures made during the arrests, or perhaps other factors which could lead to a favorable plea bargain. In the event of a criminal trial, deciding on the best strategy should be priority number one.
