More arrests in Roseville and nearby locations after shootout

Some of our readers may recall a previous post here from a couple of weeks ago that detailed the events surrounding a shootout between a criminal suspect and law enforcement officials, which resulted in gunshot wounds for one Roseville police officer and one federal agent. It was reportedly a messy scene at the October 25 incident, involving numerous shots fired. The suspect involved is a 32-year-old man with alleged gang ties, and he is now in custody facing several charges of attempted murder, as well as a weapons charge.

However, it appears that this case wasn't going to end with the arrest of this one suspect. A recent report detailed a wide-ranging law enforcement operation in Roseville and surrounding areas after reports of witness intimidation by family members and associates of the suspect. The operation spanned from Roseville and out, to include locations in Sacramento, Yuba and Placer counties. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, parole officers and Homeland security also took part in the operation.

As a result of this operation, a reported 27 additional people were arrested in connection with the shootout and alleged actions that occurred in the aftermath. Half of these arrestees are family members of the shooting suspect.

While the impetus for this operation, which including searches and arrests, were the reports of witness intimidation, the 27 suspects arrested in the November 20 sweep are facing a slew of other charges as well. The reports indicate that several of the suspects will also face charges related to illegal drugs and weapons. But there are already some in the community who are questioning the police tactic of targeting known family members and associates of a criminal suspect. When these new cases go to court, there can be no doubt that some of the defendants will argue against the constitutionality of the searches related to their arrests.
