Alleged rape leaves two Roseville men in jail with no bail

Any crime involving sex is sure to catch the attention of the media and the public. In many cases, the person who is alleged to have committed the crime will claim that the sexual contact was consensual, placing the issue of consent front and center in the ensuing judicial process. However, sometimes it is not until much later in the case that the issue of consent becomes a crucial factor, and, as reports surface of a rape in the local area, it could be some time before the details on whether or not consent will come into play in that case are released.

The reports are indicating that two men have been arrested in connection with an alleged rape that was said to have occurred on February 23. According to the reports, the men, both of whom are from Roseville, are said to have picked up a woman to give her a ride home at about 7:00 p.m. that evening. Apparently, the woman and the men did not know each other. The woman has reported, however, that the men did not give her a ride home but instead took her to a parking lot and raped her.

The initial reports did not indicate whether or not drugs or alcohol were alleged to have been involved, nor has it been reported whether or not the alleged victim has alleged that weapons were involved. Both of the suspects were initially being held in the Placer County Jail without bail.

Rape is a serious allegation, and there are always two sides to the story. In the early phases of a rape investigation law enforcement officials are almost always more inclined to believe the alleged victim over the alleged attackers. But, if the initial media reports serve as any indication, there are some serious concerns in this case. Why would a woman get into a vehicle with two men she doesn't know at seven o'clock at night? Were there any witnesses? Did the woman go to the hospital to have a rape kit completed? These are all questions that will be crucial in the early stages of the investigation.
