Man faces child pornography charges in California

One man in California was recently arrested for child pornography. The arrest occurred following an extensive police investigation. Police said they began the child pornography investigation after receiving a cyber tip.

The man facing child pornography charges is already a registered sex offender. The man, 28, is said to have uploaded pictures and videos of kids in different poses that are sexually explicit. The pictures and videos also allegedly depicted children taking part in sexual acts.

Authorities reported that more than 400 videos and images showing the sexual exploitation of children were taken from the man's residence. Officials said he was also trading, as well as distributing, these images and videos. The man was booked at a detention center on charges of not only possessing child pornography but also distributing it.

As the case moves forward, the defendant accused of child pornography might choose to fight the charges at trial or may be given the chance, alongside his legal counsel, to negotiate a plea deal with the prosecution. A plea deal might offer the advantage of leading to a lighter sentence than what would be ordered if he were to be found guilty at trial. If a plea agreement is offered, this must be weighed against the possibility of going to trial on the merits of the case before he can decide on the best avenue to take in such a criminal case. His criminal defense will strive for an outcome that is in the defendant's best interests, while simultaneously making sure that his rights are protected during proceedings in the California criminal justice system.
