Man faces child pornography charges in California

One man in California was recently accused of committing sex crimes. The criminal charges he faces include child pornography charges. The man facing sex crime charges is 27 years old.

According to police, the man conspired with another person to gain access to cloud storage accounts that were protected so that he could obtain revealing pictures. These accounts belonged to girls and women and were accessed from January 2016 to May 2016. Police said the man knew the girls and women whose online accounts he was able to access.

When police searched the man's home, they reportedly discovered evidence of child pornography as well. They said he operated an online site used to distribute the images he had obtained. One of the images featured a girl, 9, who was taking part in sexual activity.

The man currently faces charges of distributing child pornography (two counts), possessing child pornography, identify theft (four counts) and accessing a computer system that was protected as well as conspiring to commit computer-related theft (three counts). He was jailed on a bond of $1.5 million, and if he ends up being convicted of his charges, he may spend five years behind prison bars. The man may opt to go to trial to fight the charges or may pursue negotiations for a plea deal, which may lead to reduced charges and thus a lighter sentence than what would be imposed following a guilty verdict at trial. Either way, defense counsel will push for the most personally favorable outcome for the accused in California.
