Celebrity chef arrested and accused of DUI and drug possession

Any kind of legal issue -- especially when it's criminal in nature -- can spell disaster for the reputation of a California resident, as it can affect his or her job prospects, family reputation and friendships. Criminal allegations can also be particularly severe for Californians who have a certain degree of celebrity because of the way news media outlets love to publicize a scandal.

This is exactly what happened for the world famous chef Michael Chiarello earlier this month when he was arrested and accused of intoxicated driving and drug possession. Authorities pulled him over while he was driving through Napa County in his Porsche.

The 54-year-old Bravo TV star, who has been featured on the television show "Top Chef Masters" was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol at 3:27 a.m. The CHP says that he was in a 2015 Porsche Boxter at the time of the traffic stop, traveling away from Yountville, the location of his renowned restaurant Bottega Ristorante.

Officers performed various tests on the man when they became suspicious that he was intoxicated and decided to take him into custody. Jail records show that the chef secured his release the same day; however, he will now need to assert various defenses in court if he hopes to escape misdemeanor punishments related to DUI and drug possession convictions.

Chef Chiarello released a statement about the arrest, confirming that he would vigorously fight the charges being brought against him. He also said that the incident embarrassed him and he apologized to those who are close to him. Fortunately, Chef Chiarello is no different than any other California resident accused of a crime. Indeed, no matter how serious the allegations, everyone will be given a chance to hire a criminal defense lawyer and defend themselves in court.
