Roseville basketball coach arrested for sex registry violations

A Citrus Heights man who allegedly had privately coached children at the Roseville Sports Center has been arrested. According to authorities, the man is a registered sex offender.

The police had received tips that the man was providing private lessons at the sports center, although he was never employed there. He would reportedly have players meet him for group and individual lessons. The players and their parents only knew him as "Coach Allen." Police believe he may have used different names.

The man was arrested after a police investigation reportedly revealed that he was inappropriately texting with some of the kids he coached. Because of his conviction in 2011 for employing, coercing or using a minor in the production of obscene material and his subsequent placement on the state's sex offender registry, he is not allowed work with children under the age of 16 or contact them. This includes texting.

A permit is required by the city of Roseville for anyone who is providing private coaching lessons for a sport funded by the city. Police state that the man did not have a permit. He is currently being held in the Placer County Jail, although his bond amount or next court date were not reported.

Being charged with violating the sex offender registry requirements can result in significant penalties. Charges of this nature tend to enrage the public as well. However, it is important to remember that everyone is presumed innocent until, and only if, they are found guilty in a court of law. An attorney can help those who are facing sex crime charges develop a strong defense.
